One night in BLOXtober

Halloween 2013. Every few days that October, Roblox put a wrapped box in the catalog, and nobody knew what was inside until it opened.

The last one was the Big BOOtiful Gift of Destiny: black, covered in green bats, tied with a purple ribbon. It cost 31,000 Robux, and only Turbo and Outrageous Builders Club members could buy it.

On October 17 the boxes opened, and out came a purple pumpkin with antlers and a green glow inside. Roblox has not sold it since, and because it is not a limited, nobody can resell theirs either. Every Doomsekkar in the world today was unwrapped that night.

Asset 132075960 The box itself, built from its own mesh. Its description ends: “Inside you find... the Doomsekkar.”

Three heads, one mesh

Doomsekkar is not a new shape. It is the 2008 Dusekkar pumpkin wearing a new skin, and a year later Roblox did it a third time.

Four years without fire

Doomsekkar always had a Fire inside it. For most of its life, nobody wearing it could see it.

  1. Doomsekkar comes out with a green Fire in its file. In game, the flames show up for exactly one player: Matt Dusek, who didn’t own it. The script that lit them had been borrowed from The Dusekkar.

  2. Ghosdeeri comes out, burning blue for everyone. A few hours later the fire script is taken off The Dusekkar. Of the three antlered pumpkins, only the new one is lit.

  3. A player called DailyBasis opens a forum thread asking Roblox to fix it. It grows past 19 pages of signatures, from owners, non-owners, and even Dusekkar and Ghosdeeri owners.

  4. Owners keep asking in the item’s comments and at Roblox staff on Twitter.

  5. Roblox shuts the forums down. The thread goes with them.

  6. Doomsekkar finally burns in game. The catalog still shows the moment: its last update is 2018-01-23 18:29 UTC, and nobody has touched it since.

Small things

  • It was the first Roblox accessory with green fire. The next one was the Poisoned Horns of the Toxic Wasteland.
  • Every Dusekkar ships with a coloured smoke effect, and every one is switched off. Doomsekkar’s is purple.
  • The Dusekkar’s orange fire is still in its file too, set to off.
  • Inside its own file, the gift box is called Batbox.
  • The box’s description is a nod to The Dusekkar’s: both are long jokes about destiny.
